When we look back at Juvenile form from last year, it's always worth paying attention on those that have had three runs in quick succession, the obligatory requirement to attain a Handicap mark, and then see them put away for a winter on their backs.
Indeed, those that are bred for a future over a middle distance trip, and not necessarily to be a precocious first time out two-year-old, catch our eye, especially where a colt has been gelded in the interim. Over the years, Nottingham and Leicester form of all places have provided subsequent big race winners. However, given we are in early March, let's take a look at those who could be involved in the upcoming middle distance All Weather races.....
CAMELOT x ELPHIN (Frankel) Form: 8968-
Stoutly-bred and had to run a 4th time last Autumn such was the poor performances, particularly the third time when they took him up to Beverley. Now gelded will be stepped right up in trip and will be a different proposition.
CHURCHILL x DOUBLE FANTASY (Indian Ridge) Form: 769-
The damsire the key here for stamina and progression, and the form hardly worth a second look however that could be a hot Novice he contested last time in November. Open to much progress now gelded and 1m4f around Southwell would spark interest.
WOOTTON BASSETT x BRIGHT EYED (Galileo) Form: 494-
Take a look at his second race at Kempton on 20th September and one can see the ability is there and will be evident more this year. Keeps hold of his wedding tackle with the Galileo bloodline, and 1m2f looks the order of the day. If he goes up to Newcastle, interest will spark even more given the yard have a 21% strike rate up their with this age group. WON 6/4
KINGMAN x ENTITY (Shamardal) Form: 657-
Shown absolutely zilch on three starts in five weeks late last summer, and quickly gelded. The dam has produced a Jumps winner and it's a nice blend of speed and stamina here, so Lingfield would really appeal.
CLASSIC EMPIRE x FOOLISH CAUSE (Giant's Causeway) Form: 690-
Not sure about the sire here yet there's still time and hard to assess on limited numbers. Was green at Goodwood in a hot race last year beaten around 12 lengths but considering the yard did nothing much in 2024, can be forgiven. Gelded now and a trip to Southwell would be interesting goven the yard's record there, and the USA influence.
MOHAATHER x NAFAAYES (Exceed And Excel) Form: 656-
Go back to the Wolverhampton run when last seen in early October, you'll see she showed up well before losing a shoe but displayed plenty of promise. Won't need an extreme distance so could start over a mile soon and a return to Wolves or indeed Lingfield would really appeal. Form is ok but the sire appeals for progression having won the Greenham at 3 and the Sussex Stakes at 4.
TOO DARN HOT x INITIALLY (Dansili) Form: 307-
Just 4 lengths off the now 103-rated Tuscan Hills on Thirsk debut and had those rated at least 4lbs higher in arrears. Opening mark of 69 could be lenient. gelded since and yard do well with these types. The Dansili influence for progression is nice!
